Disabling interior lights from keypad

Right now, whenever anyone walks up to my truck, they can turn on all the interior lights just by pressing any button on the keypad on the driver's door, even when it's locked. Is there any way to disable this behavior? I carry tools in the back of my Ex and I really don't like this at all.

Hi andym,

I never use the keypad just the keyfob so I'm not sure if this would work for your situation. That said, you could always unplug the keypad from inside the door, right?

It's a nice free resource to use if you accidentally lock yourself out.

Do you have your key code Chad?

I'm interested in putting in a switch to kill the dome lights when a door is opened. I wonder if that alone, if switched off, would keep them off if the keypad is touched.

My interest is for not blinding or awakening the littles on road trips at night if the doors get opened.

Hey A Roster,

I do. Still have all the original books and key code card.

Just never used it, yet.

Until you get the switch would rolling the interior light **** (wheel?) all the way back keep the interior lights off when opening the door?

I am positive I tried that on our Disneyland trip. There are threads about bypassing it so I'm pretty sure it doesn't do it.

I'll double check tomorrow.

That just dims the dash lights.

I guess I should have said that I'd like to have the ability to lock and unlock the doors without the key. It comes in handy quite a bit.

I pulled the fuse out of the fuse box and wired a switch (and inline fuse holder) in its place. That way I can turn off the lights whenever I want, such as when working on the truck with the doors open. I just went out and checked and with the switch off, the lights do not come on when operating the key pad.

Note, turning off that circuit shuts off the power windows/mirrors too, didn't realize that at first haha.

I locked my 2005 limited last night with the switch/fob/pad. Following all three scenarios once it was locked I tried getting the lights to come on when I touch the keypad and they wouldn't.

I wonder if there is some kinda timer? Later this morning I will go out and hit the keypad first and post results.

Maybe on the owners manual there is a function setting to able / disable it.
