My daughter drives a 97 std cab, 4 cyl. auto w/ 150k miles. The air bag was deployed in a collision to the bed on the drivers side. I left the air bag housing in place but cut out the bag itself. Now the horn doesn't blow. I checked the fuse and it appearred to be good. Do I have electrical problems or will a new air bag make it work.
On my '98, the horn switches are located underneath the driver side air bag module in the steering wheel. The switches are powered through the air bag by virtue of a "sliding contact" and ground through the steering column.
So it would appear that, if your daughter's '97 is set up the same way as mine, then replacing the airbag is probably necessary to make the horn work properly.
