2004 4x4 issues

Hi guys, sold the 97 and now into a 2004. 4.6L, STX model, with 141K miles. Got it in the fall, and had 4x4 issues this winter. Seems to work fine when driving forward, but when I drove in reverse through any kind of snow, it would slip, and had grinding coming from left front. Am I looking at a hub issue? Another thing is, I get a growl/grinding sound that is coming from right front, can't tell if its coming from the wheel. This usually happens only when driving up hills. This has been happening since I had the truck, is not dependent on weather, temp, and I am driving in 2X4.

Sounds like a bad IWE actuator. Can get a Dorman replacement for a little over $60 on amazon.com Use a hand vacuum pump to test both and determine the bad one.
