Hey guys, I just finished restoring my truck a few weeks ago, and I started to take it to a car show. It was running perfect until it started backfiring and sputtering until it died. When I got out and looked under the good I noticed the coil was extremely hot, too hot to even touch. So I wet a rag and put over it to cool it off, and it started right back up, so I immediately started to head back home. But it died every 3 or 4 minutes once I got it started back up. With extremity bad backfire. Any help would be appreciated. As far as voltage goes. I've got 3 volts on my coil, and it goes down the more RPM's I achieve.
Also, I've already tried the duras park module and the voltage regulator. And any opinion on replacing the duraspark ignition with an msd system would be appreciated.
Could also be the magnetic pickup inside the distributor. Easier to replace the whole distributor in my opinion. Just be comfortable with re-stabbing it and resetting the timing. Covered many times on these boards.
