My generator light came on so I replaced the generator all in all cause it needed to be upgraded. So now my generator light is on still, thought I did the wires backwards so I switched them, light is still on...
OK, can we assume that the drive belt is tight, and that the replacement generator is a rebuilt, serviceable generator e.g. not some worn out core pulled from a junkyard etc. is the battery known to be OK, able to take a charge.
They are simple units and not a whole lot to go wrong. It's good practice to replace the voltage regulator when installing a "new" generator. Polarize a FORD (type "B") generator by (engine OFF) disconnecting the FLD and BAT terminal wires at the regulator and briefly touching them together. May see a spark. That's it. Don't use any other method on a FORD. Polarization should be done anytime a generator is replaced or reassembled. Not saying this will fix the problem but it is important.
