Hi there guys im having a problem with fuel in my 7.3. Its a 2000 and if im not mistaken originally comes with a 29 gallon tank. Well i always like to fill it up when i reach the quarter tank mark. A couple days ago i went below that mark and the truck had no power when you accelerated it and started sounding like it had a lope tune. I put-putted to the gas station and filled her up and boom shes perfect. But the gauge still said i had a quarter tank. So now to avoid this scare i just fill it up at quarter tank and dont dare go under that. Evey single time i fill up it stops right at 19-20 gallons. So if i have the 29 gallon tank shouldnt i still have 9 gallons in there? Why isnt it pumping the rest? Or maybe i have a smaller tank than stock and its just a 20 gallon tank and my gauge is off? Please help! Thanks
the drop tubes for the fuel pumps are known to break off in the tank right at the 1/4 tank level on the gauge. plenty of threads on it and how to fix it. good luck.

It is fairly common on these trucks to have the pickup tube crack right where it will suck air below 1/4 tank. Sounds like yours is a candidate for the Hutch mod, it will take care of all the fuel tank issues that happen to these trucks.

Can you supply me with a link to a good thread that explains this f you know of one or maybe a link the the new parts and tubes i need? Would help alot! Thanks
I just did this and the harpoon (more gas in tank) mod. They're both pretty easy and I took a ton of pics. See the build thread in my sig for pics. Good luck!
Just for context... after having done the H&H mods on my tank, if I run it down to empty, I've been able to put as much as 34 gallons of fuel in my "29 gallon tank" by dribbling it in until I could see liquid fuel at the top of the filler neck.
