300 I6?

Alright I know this sounds nuts but I want to throw a 4.9l inline 6 into a 2001 f-150. I have done the measurements and it will fit (with modifications) now I want to use the 300efi now I'm thinking a mild comp cam (model 66-236-4) porting the heads, k&n air box, and maybe headers (if they will work better with the cam. Any thoughts? And of course I'm going to run 2.75" fake dual exhaust with no cats

Just want more than the stock 150 hp. 200 ish would be good but more I wouldn't complain haha, just want to make sure these mods will work with the basic EFI

I think you are on your own. Just me, but I think its silly to put an old 6 into a newer truck.... and you are going to have to figure out if the flexplate and bellhousing will work..........It may physically fit in there, but what about clearances for everything else? the oil pan??

Well I'm going to use the Mazda 5od, a tranny that bolts to it, and the oil pan might be an issue. The reason why is cause I had an 01 but hated the 4.6 in it, and the 5.4 wasn't much better. It's going to be a commuter truck and ranch truck, the overall durability of that engine is un paralleled, and the fuel efficiency is amazing. As far as the oil pan I guess I could push the engine higher or modify the oil pan

You have to install the original computer, all it's wiring to the engine, motor mounts, custom exhaust. None of the dash will be useful so you need mechanical gauges.
Cooling system will be custom.
Adapt to the truck's feed and return fuel lines, power the fuel pump etc.
Drive shaft, trans mount, clutch and brake pedal installation and a hoist of little things that come to light along the way.
After all the work and hassle, I question the worth of the project more than just to do it.
I would suggest you find an older truck with the motor you want and apply the expense to get it running, in shape and avoid all the back yard re-engineering.
Much easier to do brakes, tires, shocks, suspension and other items than all the conversion hassle

I would be interested in why you have issue with the stock motor?
I have almost 229,000 on my 4.6L 4wd and towed over 12,000 gross combined weight over the last 12 years.
Good luck.

That's how I see it too. assbackwards engineering. the 300 was good in its day. but the 4.6s and 5.4s are giving good service now too

"and the fuel efficiency is amazing"

I was always amazed that my good running, all OEM, smog-passing carb'd '85 didn't get better mileage.

Put a 4.2 in it. See the 4.2 forum for all the guys with well over 200k on that motor.

Serving suggestion. Or another 4.6.....

Find a nice pre '97 truck with a 300/6. Buy it, drive it. Less money, less time, less headaches.
