Blows me away no one is repopping those yet. I noticed the other day that Midwest early has a pretty good replica of the fuel shut off now. It’s got to be on the list coming up......
The main reason is finding an original to make a mold from is nearly impossible . Have a set so am good on that part . May put one on the First Ride & take some pics since the truck will be going no where for a few weeks . Need to make 2 small rectangular containers w/ enough meat around the out side to be able to bolt them together after pouring in the material which will make the 2 halves of the out side mold . Then mill them down to where ,0625 is left on the ends of each half so the .125 rod in the middle
rests snugly . Drill four #8 holes each corner while the 2 halves are clamped together . Have it all figured out in my head . Just need time to do it
Update .Spent some time w/ my buddy Pete at the race shop & we milled both halves to make a matching outside mold . Won't be long now . Been raining ( a lot ) every after noon . Hard to get anything done . Should be due end of Sept .
Made a visit to the race shop thur & drilled out the brass rod on the lathe .
Mad some progress it was raining on & off most of the day .
Fixture made to hold the inside buck in the center of the out side mold .
Next is to figure out the correct proportion of urethane rubber to hardener .
E-brake cable boots soon .
No progress this week . . Magic Air heater resto was priority as have 2 that need sent out & have 3 for inventory . Painted 5 complete heaters that have 45 parts each . See post Magic Air Heaters & Parts
Made an attempt , FAIL !!! Tried using a premixed material that needs exposure to air to cure . Main concern for me was that it was going to trap air in the mold and cause a air lock , spot . Not the case as a very small hole is in the bottom to let air out .. Good result was now I know the amount of material it takes 12 grams . So will have to reduce the formula down to the correct proportion of urethane vs. hardener .Let it sit for 2 days as prescribed . Spent some time w/ q-tips & lacquer thinner cleaning up the inside buck & mold . I WILL succeed .Poured #199 heater boot this morning a '52 . #200 , a '51 this week . WOW !
