I am just curious how many of you actually have a mounted vacuum gauge and use it to improve gas mileage and or performance. I understand that by monitoring the engines vacuum status can tell you a lot about the engine and how it is running. I am thinking of mounting one under the dash but I first wanted some information of whether or not it is a valuable tool, and which brand to get for again under the dash.
Yup.. it's one of the gauge displays on the Edelbrock EFI's tablet. It also has, among others, an AFR meter, volts, fuel pressure, tach, coolant temp, inlet air temp.
I live by my vacuum gauge/meter and my tach at all times.
It's main use is to helps prevent engine damage..
I learned at an early age while growing up that monitoring the engine vacuum and how important it was in every day driving. Plus the use of a tach in combination with the two meters.
And while driving in Vietnam heavily overloaded diesel trucks up steep mountain passes, the tach was one of the most looked at gauges to keep the truck just moving.
If having a vehicle with a stick tranny is where a vacuum gauge is mostly needed.
And it's really needed with a overdrive trans stick or auto.
I agree with Orich and HIO Silver: As for as I'm concerned a vacuum gauge and tach or the best engine diagnostic tools you can have in these rigs, a vacuum gauge can spot just about any problem you have in the upper end of these motors and can be a definite help on economy. I' column mounting one like this in my 70.

Really good info Orich & Silver, love it..
I am still on the hunt for a vacuum gauge that matches the F600 instrument cluster I have in my truck. Anybody out there want to sell one?? Drop me a line...I will bite.
I've got one and I was using it to find the right springs for the enrichment circuit on an Edlebrock 1407 carb. I can watch the guage as I'm accelerating and I also have a wide band O2 sensor to tell if I am rich or lean at any point.
