Will take in the batteries and alternator tomorrow for testing. Removed the FICM today. Noticed the 2 bolts on back were a little loose! Will send it in tomorrow.
Haven't found the IPR yet, but I guess I should pull it and examine while FICM is out. Thanks, 48fordman.
I have seen the YouTube video about testing the HP system, looks simple enough. I'll get the hose parts in town tomorrow. Thx BLADE35, didn't know about the IPR leaking during the test. Maybe I'll be able to locate it that way!
Well I'm confused. Tested the alternator at three places. Parts store said it passed with these results: 14.7v B+, 0.43v ripple, 2.97v lamp on, 13.77v lamp off. Auto shop tested it, said it failed, I asked for data, they said it had no output. Battery shop said it passed, no data. Not sure who to believe. What kind of test results should I expect or ask for besides output voltage?
Tested both batteries (charged the day before, measured 12.65V on my meter). Auto shop said they were about 700 and 675 CCA (analog meter). Battery shop got 961 and 874 CCA using their digital meter.
I'll probably get a beefier alternator, this one is OEM 110a. Any suggestions? I tow a fifth wheel, but don't have any current-hogging add-ons.
I'm off now to find a metric adapter for pressure testing at ICP port, and maybe get another test on the alternator.
Felixfan, I went with an AC Delco 140amp alternator (PN 335-1212) from Amazon and swapped out the stock size pulley with a smaller, 58mm pulley from Ebay. I get a nice solid 14.2v. And it didn't break the bank. No modifications needed to make the alt fit, just pull out the old and put in the new.
Since I had the alt out I went ahead and replaced the serpentine belt with a Gates (PN K081265HD). More of a piece of mind thing than anything since the original belt had over 100,000 on it.
As for testing your batteries you might invest in an electronic battery tester that is capable of CA's and CCA's. I have the Solar BA5.
