Got a new project, need some input.

I picked up a 1990 2wd f350 5 speed with a 460. Engine is bad but I have a shortblock assembled from a previous project, it's a D1VE block. I'm getting the heads off the truck rebuilt and will be running the factory intake and fuel injection.

I want to put an RV/towing cam in, any suggestions? What's size headers should I run?

I am also removing all emissions from the truck, do I need to do anything to the computer at all?

Thanks in advanced.

If you are not porting your E7TE heads, then you have no need for headers. The stock manifold can handle E7 heads that are opened up quite a bit. As far as cams go your options are limited. Here is a write up from FSB that goes back a ways, but is still accurate:

As long as your lobe separation is above 110-111, and your lift is below .500 you should be fine. If you do a MAF swap you will have way more options, but with speed density EFI your vacuum will be too low for the MAP sensor to know what to do.

So are you saying I need to do the MAF swap then if I'm going to be running a cam or just if I run a cam over 500 lift?

Only if you are going over .500 lift. Lobe separation is equally important, and should not be too tight i.e. under 111 should be avoided. Also any duration over 214 @ .050" lift is bad for speed density also.

Bigger cams produce lower vacuum at idle and at off idle. The MAP sensor will then read this lower vacuum and the EEC will not compensate well, and will probably run in open loop.

About removing the emissions stuff. Removing everything will throw a check engine light, but it will run fine. I ran mine for 3 years like that before I tuned my EEC and essentially removed the EGR function.
