Hmm... too bad. Thanks for the more accurate info though - Google wasn't much help. The 3900 number must be for a 2 wheel drive base model or something.
Doubtful I have a base model and can lift my tool box (it's a plastic one )with tools with eas so it's not 500 pounds

Haha, well having spent the last 10 years owning various small cars (Ford Escorts, some Mazdas, and a Kia), all sub-2500 lbs, I had no idea a truck was that heavy.
Curb weight on a 4wd half ton is closer to 5500lbs.
No.. there are no 1/2 ton trucks of this vintage that weigh more that 5000lbs, I have had my ext cab 4x4 on the scale hundreds of times and it's right at 5k and my reg cab long box 4x4 was about 4500lbs. The Ligntning is heavy for a 2wd truck, I have read it has a thicker frame so maybe that is why, most regular cab 2wd trucks are several hundred pounds lighter.
In any event I had a had a set of Hellwig EZ-990 helper springs on my '90 1/2 ton and they were great, The unloaded ride was stock but it handled big loads much better and didn't squat as much. If you put a 6-leaf pack from an F250 on your truck the rear end will stick way up in the sky and the unloaded ride will be totally destroyed, the rear axle will jump around all over the place over every pebble and crack in the road.
I guess I'll just have to see what happens. It can't be any worse of a ride than this one (13 leafs on each side). Obviously this is a heavier truck to begin with (F-250) but that's an insane amount of leafs.
The steel ladder rack and toolboxes filled with crap should help keep it planted even with the 6-pack springs.

This product seems WAY more legit than the thing I had originally bought, which only clamped to the back half of the spring. I didn't really understand how they would be effective without putting undue stress on the front half of the springs. That's another reason I sent them back in order to pursue different options.

I find it hard to believe that a 4x4 does not weigh 1000lbs more than my 2wd short bed lightning(4400lbs). Especially when going to a long bed and supercab

I don't know what to tell you except that the Lightning is known to be heavy for a reg cab 2wd.. non L versions are closer to the 4k mark.
Hopefully less than a month until I can get the truck repaired and take it over the scales so this is no longer in question. I'd better prepare now to be disappointed to discover the meager payload I'm actually able to carry haha
Well I just wanted to close this thread by saying that with the new leaf spring packs from ATS (6+1) and the Monroe coil-over shocks the truck rides AWESOME. I haven't had the chance to put any weight on or tow my trailer but I have a feeling it will do well. I can't see needing any sort of air bags or helper springs now.

I'm looking into replacing my leaf springs too. Do you have a link to the ones you bought? I'm glad to hear you were able to fix your sagging/bouncy issue and still have a good ride. That's my goal as well.
I bought the 43-695HD (6+1) springs. It's the biggest pack you can get from them. If you're looking for something more in line with the average person's definition of a "good ride" then it may be worth looking into a slightly less crazy pack of springs. It's all about personal preference - I prefer a stiffer ride. On country back roads in poor condition, yes it rides pretty rough. But in my experience doing day-to-day running so far, it rides much better than the worn out originals (3+1).
