So, been lucky the past few SD's (2011 & 2013), but the new 2015 at 5k seems to be having a bad time with the wobble.
I can pretty easily reproduce it, so think this maybe an issue.
Has there been a TSB on this? Has there been a real solution or just throwing anything at the issue to see what sticks?
What a bummer, 65k for a truck, 10k in upgrades, and now this.
Thanks
Hi Demo-man,
I recommend making an appointment at your dealership so they can get this wobble straightened out. I don't have access to TSBs, but your service manager will be able to check for any that would apply to your truck. Let's get your regional customer service manager looped in as well. PM me your information, including your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership; I'll move this up the chain.
5,000 miles seems pretty early for anything to be wore out. I'd check the air pressure and any lift kit you might have installed. Since it's come on so early in miles, It might have something to do with what got modified
My experience with the Death Wobble has been worn parts, Steering Dampener, wheel bearings/hubs etc.
I'm guessing the 10k bought you more than you thought. If you did anything to the suspension I doubt the dealer will cover much under warranty until you put it back to stock.
My 2015 has had a slight shimmy in the steering wheel since day one. Been back to the dealer 3 times, every time I've been told the same thing we could get it to do, feels fine, all parts are in good shape. The shimmy is there all the time.
I put on a Carlie high mount steering stabilizer, new shocks as the stock ones were shot after 5000 miles( would not rebound once compressed). No change.
So what I'm saying is I would not get my hopes up, no check engine light no problem.
Now at 19,000 miles I decided to try another route. Have some One Up Offroad parts ordered that are supposed to fix this. I guess I'll see.
Had the DW on my 2011 also, but when I changed out my Michelin A/Ts to the M/S's, no more wobble. Had the truck into the dealer a couple times prior to changing the tires without success. Not saying this would work for anyone else, but it worked for me. No wobble at all now. My truck is totally stock, original 20 inch tire size and no lift.
Well, dealer, after inspection, said I need a dual shock steering stabilizer. Anyone had any luck with this route.
I guess I am a bit disappointed by Ford and their regional reps. They contacted me through this board, in an effort to help I guess. They mentioned I should take it to another dealer for another inspection. My question, if a ford tech is Ford certified, why need a second opinion? Seems odd to me, but will do so.
I did ask, that if I add the steering stabilizer and it does work, would they reimburse me. They said they will not. So, they are trying to fix my issues, and use my money to do so.
Bummer of a situation, I have bought 8 trucks in 12 years from this dealership. I guess repeat customers dot matter to Ford.
Any ideas/comments on how to proceed? Should I take it another dealer and see what they say?
I so loved my 2011, and 2013, which never had the wobble and also had the exact same tires wheels.
That would be the route to go if you did a lift and bigger tires.
I had asked about the mods..that is why.
Get the dual setup. Just leave the factory one there. It won't be in the way.
Hmmmm... Looks lifted / leveled and 35" agressive tread tires might have something to do with it...
Not sure why Ford would do much in this case - they did not build the truck the way it sits today... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...h-the-new.html
It is a good looking rig, but personalization has its costs.. Just consider the stabilizer as part of that...
You might try just putting the stock wheels and tires on for a weekend and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't, you may have a suspension geometry problem going on and may need a realignment.
It still amazes me when someone mods their truck and when it doesn't pan out they blame the vehicle mfg. In this case if the truck is lifted why not go to the a/m mfg. and complain to and about them instead of Ford?
