I recently purchased an 06 F250 XLT Crew Cab. I want to add the factory automatic headlights to it. Is there anymore to it than the photocell and the light switch that I need to make it all function? I'm adding the factory driving lights and it's only $8.00 more to get the automatic headlight switch with the driving light option. I tried the search function but came up empty. I'm sure someone has done this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
Not sure about '06, but on the newer trucks the fogs will be plug and play, but the auto feature needs to be flashed also from the dealer.
Might be. I can get you the wiring diagrams and if the PCM is not involved
and I have a strong feeling that it ls you might have to have it flashed to
turn the function on.
In looking at the diagram the VSM looks to be involved in the control
of the auto-on function. Hook it up and see if it works and if not you
may have to have it flashed. But you never know it might work without
a re-flash of the VSM
I installed the kit in my '15 last week. The fog lights worked, no problem, but the auto position on the switch only works as a delay when I shut the truck off. Other than that, the lights are always on in the auto position regardless of daylight.
Dealer has to flash it to make it work on mine. Flash will also add adjustments to the dash menu like delay time, etc.

Apples and oranges here. The OP has an 06. I have an 06 also. He may to have
it flashed to turn the option on. The VSM is what controls the lights and it may
of may not already know what to do with the new switch.
One thing I don't know is if he has the light sensor or not. He did not really say
if he did or not.
Yahiko, a BIG Thank You for posting the wiring diagram and the information. I don't have the light sensor (photocell?) yet, before I purchased the light sensor & light switch I wanted be sure it would be possible to make it all work. I've only had the truck for about a month now and also definitely want to add factory Brake controller and since I have to have the ecm flashed for that I figure I'll get everything, put it all together and have it all flashed at the same time. Again Thanks for the information and the diagram! NYCruiser, thank you for taking the time to add your input also. I never would have known there would have been such a big difference between these years of trucks so I have learned quite a bit in just one day. Thanks to this site & members I also found where my oil leak was coming from - the oil cooler adaptor. (that I was able to find with the search function) What a great site with great people!
Yahiko, unfortunately I just have the manual Heat/AC. So that's a heat sensor that actually turns on the headlights and even controls the EACT? Again Thank You for the additional information! Darn, things have sure changed over the last 45 years! When I added automatic headlights to my 71 Cadillac it was just a photo cell, different light switch and a small control box. It looks like I'm going to have to break down and purchase the Autoenginutity ST06 along with the Ford specific ST08? to go with it. I just hate breaking open my wallet for something I'm not going to be using all that much but if I have to go back to the dealer a few times to get flashed it would about pay for it all. Again THANK YOU for your time and information! I appreciate it!
You might ask who ever your going to go see about the programming to see
if maybe that is already in there and all that needs to be done is add the parts.
Yahiko, again thank you so much for ALL the information and help you have provided me with. What I was hoping to be a simple plug in and go isn't so but I'm still going to check into all I'll need to make it work. Thanks to your information I now know what to look for BEFORE I get started on this project! I'll definitely keep ED at FiCM in mind for sourcing new parts. There's a wrecking yard a couple of hours north of me that specializes in newer trucks and next time I'm passing through there I'll stop in and check them out too. Again Thank You for your time and the information you've provided me with.

I️ hate to bring up an old thread but I️ have the exact same truck, a 2006 f250 xlt and I️ have bought the auto light switch and the photocell. I️ installed them in my truck and as expected nothing happened. So I️ took it to ford and they told me that there is nothing in their IDS software that they can activate that function. Has anyone sucessfully done this on a 2005-2007 f250 that can put some input in.
