2008 Bad Leak

Not sure if I am in the right place this is my first post but here goes.I have wanted an F250 diesel forever and in the begining of March I used most of my savings and bought an awesome clean clean 2008 f250 diesel 4 door to pull my 30' camper and have the 6' tall kid comfy in the back not like my old quad cab.. The last few days I have have noticed a leak on the driver side under the bumper. Small leak coming from the bottom inner side by the drain from what I can see While checking on line I find since I bought the truck just over 100k miles the lemon law does not apply in my state and would you know I am just over the 30 days. No way to put a few grand into it right now. I have read to use bars to not use bars to use pepper to not use pepper. I know I have to do some thing but I have to rebuild some funds first. Any ideas that I will not hrt the truck in the mean time. Finally bought my dream truck and now problems......grrrr. Any ideas??

This needs to move to the 6.4 section. Although your issue us the same. You cannot use anything in these motors like the days of old.

Keep the degas bottle full and drive it as long as the leak is slow till you get a few dollars.

If you just bought it take it back to them and see if they place you bought it from will fix it. The fix is a new radiator, don't settle for anything less.

Or buy an aftermarket one. If you read this thread there is alternates.

Sad thing it sounds like you need a radiator. Do not use anytime of stop leak period.

I like look at a mishimoto radiator.

Ford 6.4L Powerstroke Aluminum Radiator, 2008-2010, by Mishimoto

I would do a complete flush of the coolant system that involves removing the block plugs. Replace the coolant with ford gold coolant for the 6.4.

I would request to have the thermostats inspected for hyper-extention or just plan to replace them if budget allows.

I would also consider new upper and lower coolant hoses as well.

Last but not least while they are in there it would hurt to remove the water pump and inspect the front cover. Now might be a good time to consider the water pump as well if budget allows.

On last thing to look at would be the tensioners for the main belt and the ac belt. Inspect them to make sure there not on there way out.

None of this required beyond the radiator but i would differently look at these items if i had the radiator out as the labor expense is not much more to address these items as a preventive maintenance point.

It does indeed sound like a radiator issue, which is quite common with the 6.4L. It may be worth some time to speak with the seller and see if they would mind covering some of the cost, especially since this happened so shortly after the sale). You may end up with some assistance, if not you are in no worse shape.

As others have noted, assuming it is a small leak, you can keep the system topped off and continue to drive the truck while acquiring funds for a replacement unit.

Let us know if we can answer any questions about our aluminum radiator or the replacement process.

Thanks

Thanks for recommending our radiator!
