Does anyone know if there is a cover I can slip over my chrome step bumper for cosmetic reasons? It is so rusted and the junkyard ones are just as bad. I have a 2003 Chateau E-150.
If you're looking for a new bumper call around to several Ford dealerships---I've hd them quote me before on those, several years ago but they were never above $250 for new OEM.
I just bought one last month from this ebayer,

I have no affiliation with the ebay seller just so you know. At $331, It was the best price that i could find. It comes with both step pads. Its not OEM but looks exactly the same (to me anyway). So far its holding up well and looks great! Made in Taiwan . I had just a regular bumper before, what a pita getting in and out!! I checked Craigslist for about a month but everything was either rusted, scratched heavily or dented up. I bit the bullet and even took it a step further literally and got a Curt hitch and put a double 'go rhino step' in the receiver. Easy to get in and out plus looks awesome!!

The upside is they're easy to find there.
Thanks. I am going to try a couple of dealers today. I went to a body guy I know and the best he could find at a dealer was about 580.00. Maybe he had some in there for himself.
I had to replace my step bumper after someone rear ended my van while my son was driving. I remember a price of about $350 but I was able to reuse my plastic step pads. As I recall, the pads were another $100 or so. So the Taiwanese bumper looks like a pretty good deal if the chrome holds up. (Guessing a 2003 van won't make it more than another 10 years or so.)

You're right about the age, have 220,000 on it so 10 years may be optimistic. Luckily it spent half of its life in Florida. The body went downhill as soon as it came to Ohio.
Ebay bumpers are sold out at the moment.
That looks great. Nice van too. What is that metal piece between the doors, a security lock? Also how easy to install bumper?
Thank you, that's a puck hasp lock. The bumper is pretty straight forward. 4 bolts hold it on, that's all. The top nuts spin off fairly easily (at least the did for me). The bottom 2, not so easy as the plastic backing on the bolt will commonly break and the whole thing just spins. Use an impact gun and you'll have no problems. I heated mine up first and the impact took them right off. I set up 2 5gallon buckets underneath for the install of the new bumper. Pretty easy overall.
Oh, not sure if this is necessary but i disconnected the battery as a precaution when i changed the front and rear bumpers (airbag). Im sure others will chime in on weather or not its necessary but for me, when in doubt disconnect the battery ..
