The wiring pigtail to the trailer tow socket on my 86 350 is shot (along with the socket itself). Where do I get a new one? Hope its not a "dealer only" thing - the local dealer is a complete MORON.
There are many possibilities on what you have there. If you have something factory that hooks into the factory tow harness(seperate plug from the taillights, 3 heavy wires for brake, batt and ground feed) I have never seen the harnesses that go with them.
Trailer and Camper special trucks did get a harness, my 6.9 truck had/has it, I didn't swap all of it over when I did the cab swap.
There was a fuseable link protected wire coming off of the pass side battery, running across the core support and back to the drivers side firewall, where it went to a junction block and I believe there was a relay.
The red wire with the round end tied to the brake master in this picture is the feed wire.
There is a seperate 3 wire harness with a round plug on both ends running front to back, with white red and blue wires, all are 10 or 12 ga. It has been quite a while since I have even looked at that truck and even longer since I did the cab swap and the wiring was complete(2006...)
Maybe someone has the 86 EVTM's?
Either way, I have never seen the wiring that plugs into it, my truck had 3 seperate trailer plugs wired into it and the factory harness was unused.
This plugs into the factory tail lights behind the rear axle.
Then that is just aftermarket and you can get that from almost anywhere. But you should also have a Power wire from the brake controller that runs the whole way to rear.
82f100 how do you know that was for trailer wiring?
If it plugs into the factory lighting, then it's aftermarket. You will have to just keep looking, or repair what you have. The Ford dealer is not going to be able to help you on this one.
It clearly states that both tow packages include a sealed 7 wire harness with connectors.
As for my truck, not much other reason to have a relay switched red +12V feed wire running back to the rear bumper in a harness with a blue(trailer brake) and white(ground) wire, and it is definitely factory.
Amish Ford: Can you get us a picture of what you have?
No trying to high-jack a thread or anything, but can anyone tell me where I can get the factory 7 wire harness and the wiring diagram. Would also love to hook a brake controller up if this was a factory option.
