And I would remove the filler hose and siphon out as much as possible before dropping the tank.
If a squirt of gas went in - me personally - I would top off with diesel and just run it. I would stop a little more often and top off as well. Put some lubricity additive too each time, just in case. In the 6.0 and 7.3 I know people that would purposely put RUG in the diesel. Not so much with the 6.7s though. The big danger to running fuel is to the diesel fuel pump as it doesn't have the same lubrication properties diesel has. At least it sounds like you caught it BEFORE you turned the truck on. Obviously running straight gas is good for any consumer diesel truck.
Even you drop and wipe down the truck running some extra lubricity through wouldn't be a bad idea.
This is just my .02. I am sure there are those that disagree...
How much gas was put in and was the truck started. If it wasn't started I would drop the tank and empty it. The fuel system on one of these is app. 10 grand.
The tank was filled up, made it 1/2 mile down the road it started missing a little. Pulled over and figured it out. Had diesel at the water separator but could tell it had a little gas. Good news is we successfully dropped the tank along the road, drained it, filled with diesel and the truck is running. If anyone is wondering all you need is a 6" crescent wrench to drop the tank. thanks everyone for the advice
The handles I was talking. About are on the bottom of the tank they appear to be connected to a plug 1/2" wide by 1" long there are two of them I'll take a pic when I get a chance

Sounds like cool weather and the fuel recirculation system may have saved you.
