Lowering a 64

64 F100 292/AT short flareside

I would like to drop the front 2-3 in and level the rear. Im pretty sure it has the original springs. Fender to ground on the front is 31 in, the rear is 34.5 in. Tires are L78-15, 28.3 in tall.

On the front, from the top of the spring pack to the bump stop is 2.25 in. There is very little arch to the springs. The bump stop is the oem rubber.

The only way I see to lower the front and have a safe driver is to use a dropped axle.

On the rear I could flip the hanger or reverse the eye and use a longer shackle.

I don't want to cut the frame.

By the time I buy a dropped axle, tie rod ends, and a center link, how much have I got into this for a 3 in drop?

Maybe I should just work on dropping the rear.

Opinions?

Expect a Nostalgia Sid's drop axle in a week or two. Ordered with the axle the lowering tie rods and new tire rod along with fitting the kingpins.

Was $300 for the axle with exchange, another $120 to fit the spindles with new pins to the axle and another $120 for the tie rod and drop rod ends.

This and some reverse eye leafs will drop it pretty low. An axle flip in the back will bring the rear down.

Ive been looking at Sids. $600 + shipping for the drop axel, tie rod ends, tie rod, spindles, and kingpins.

How much was shipping?

Did you send in a core?

Im not going to do a flip on the rear, I don't want to notch the frame. I could do a front hanger flip.

Shadowrider123, what did you decide to do to lower your stepside truck?
Any updates and/or photo's?
Good luck with your project on such a sweet slick.

You could go the Crown VIC front end route (that is what I am doing). From what I have read on here that could be 3-5 inch drop in the front and you can get them for $300-400. I just picked up a complete front end for $300. Then you get coil spring front end, rack and pinion steering, disc brakes.
For the rear, I have the same problem...to get it leveled or lowered, there isn't much room if you flip the axle and then leaving room for suspension travel. Sounds like most guys cut the frame, put in a C-notch, etc. I am still trying to figure out what I want/need to do to get the rear level.

I dropped the rear with a set of 2in shackles. I have a set of new leaf springs for the front that I haven't installed yet. I like the stance for now. Maybe a drop axle and a rear flip someday, but Im happy for now.
