Just got a 2003 SD 250XLT LB 2x4 7.3L with the 8800# package. Just have a couple questions...
1) First of all, is the 8800# package standard on the Super Duty Long Beds, or is this an option!?
2) This vehicle is EXTREMELY bouncy on the freeways here in Southern California. For those of you that are here in the South Bay area, and drive the 405 around the South Bay Curve (Between Crenshaw & 105 Fwy), it is EXTREMELY bouncy in those areas. I know the fwy itself is screwed, because when I ride my motorcycle, even that is bouncy, and you can see the waves in the road. Is this normal on this vehicle to bounce like that!? If so, why!? Is it because of the 8800# package, or is it like one dealership told me it is the Long Bed frame that does it!?
I am just curious why this vehicle does this so bad.
It's the road I'm sure. I assume that road is concrete and not asphalt, right. We had a road like that here once. Every so many feet there was an expansion joint. This resulted in an almost trampoline type experience. You started bouncing gently but then the momentum picked up and by the time you got back on asphalt, the seatbelt was tight and your hips were sore from being locked down by the belt "cause you were bouncing like H-E-double hockeysticks! . Thank God you don't have a short wheelbase vehicle with a leaf sprung front/rear like an 87-95 Wrangler. You'd probably bounce right off the road.

You are correct. When it starts, the first dozen or so bounces are progressive, and then after that, it's crazy!
As far as the leaf springs, I actually have a `79 F-150 Supercab 4x4 LB with leaf springs all the way around, and believe it or not, the `03 is 50 times worse than that truck!
Yeah I've seen posts from SoCal guys complaining about this before. It's the combo of the stiffness of the heavy duty leaf springs and the wheelbase coupled with the expansion joints in the concrete. Do a search here and you'll find the thread about it. If I find it I'll post it here.
