Has anyone put an additional fuel tank in any of the newer trucks? I want to place a 20 gallon or so tank in the front of the bed and protect it. I also would like to install a switch like the early 90’s had to switch tanks. I know it would require an additional pump, hoses, and electric flow diverter like the one from JC Whitney.
My main questions are the following:
What is the working line pressure of the fuel pump?
What kind of flow rate do I need?
Is there a difference between a gas pump and a diesel pump?
Do diesels have return fuel lines?
I know that I would have to install a rollover valve and vent to the outside. I would really love to hear from some people that have done this kind of upgrade.

That is pretty nice for $500
With a Diesel you do have more options than us gas users. Check your state laws as some will not allow the 2 to be connected while others will if you block the original filler so it can not over flow.

Overflow? Do you mean tubing the bed tank into the main tank? No, I would want to keep them completely separate. That way, when I am on the farm I can run agricultural fuel, and flip the switch before I go on the road.
Be carfull If you get stopped and your rear tank is plumbed so that you can run on it and there is offroad only fule in it you can get a hugh fine.
It does not happen often but a friend of mine was hit hard. He had 150,000 miles on his truck, they caught him running red diesel. So they said 100,000 / 14mpg is what ever and then he had to pay the tax on that amount of fule. It's was OK though because he could deduct for every reciept! I thing with fines and such he was taged right 10 grand.
