so my truck seemed ridiculously bumpy and so i just assumed that the shocks were shot. well i was underneath the truck the other day and found out that neither one of the rear shocks are even connected to anything! on the passenger side i think i see were it is supposed to be mounted to but i couldnt find were the drivers side one is supposed to be attached. is this a regular thing to happen? and any suggestions on what the best way to put this back together would be greatly appreciated. ill try to get some pictures up when i get home later
You probably need new mounts, not a bad job, theres 3 rivets that you need to grind off, and then the new kit should come with the necessary hardware. I believe Dorman makes a shock mount kit. Ill see if I can come up with a part number. Its common up where salt is used, like here in Illinois.
I had an 83 F-250, it had the same issue. Had the job done in about an hour to hour and a half with a die grinder, and even put new shocks on in the process.
Edit: what year is your truck? also is it a 250 or 350? 2wd or 4wd, reg cab, extended cab, or crew cab Shouldn't make a difference, but doesn't hurt to be sure.
Just a FYI when looking up parts for a 97 F250 look up a 96 it'll naje life easier.
Ford made HD and a LD. The LD is a f150 with a little beefier suspension
