before I drill this thing out, anyone have any better idea on how to get this out? the hex is stripped out and it's in there TIGHT. driver side upper belt
Can you slot the head with a dremel, cutoff wheel or saw blade? Then take a large screwdriver, push on it and turn the screwdriver with an adjustable wrench.(use a screwdriver with flats on shank or with a hex on shaft)
Find a socket the next size down e.g. 12mm for 1/2" (12.7mm), 12-point socket especially, hammer it on there good n tight n square, then break it loose with a breaker bar... leave the socket on the bolt until you've got it all the way out.
An impact socket is particularly tough for hammering

Heat? "Freeze off", Kroil oil, mouse milk (google it). Weld a larger nut so you have a larger inner surface to weld the flat head to.
If you can not get it, flat cut off disk the head off in chunks so you can get the seat belt retractor off. The get a big nut again that fits over what is left sticking out and go to town with the weld a nut trick again.
Do not mess up that nut plate. Can be a PITA to replace.
Try using the next size up allen wrench. Just grind all 6 sides a little at the time til it almost fits then hammer it in. Also put a little heat to it, then cool with some water. Repeat this a few times.
If the body nut is exposed from the bottom ,heat the sucker and turn the bolt out once you tack a suitable nut/old socket/something up on top of the stripped head. EVERY nut and bolt more than 4 or 5 years old here in Vermont has to be heated,WD40-d,worked back &forth forever, and sworn at a lot. It is part of the deal on vehicles here.Extractors, special sockets etc, generally will not work on all these severely rusted bolts in this neck of the woods unfortunately.
And yes, exactly like 77&79F250 said.... carefully cut/trim the bad head away, that way removing bracket, put a big'ol nut over the remaining stem, weld into the nut hole to the stem. The heat and new nut should turn it right out. Gary
I just took another quick peek at your picture and the quickest way to remove the stripped out head(if you choose to go this route) is to just grab a drill with maybe a 3/8 bit or preferably larger and drill to the top of the bolt only. The stripped out head will fall away ,remove bracket, there's the top of the bolt looking at you. This method will truly only take a minute, then you can weld away. I do it like this very frequently. The trick is to have a bit larger than the bolt size so the head falls away. Gary
Heat definitely helps, but it looks like a lot of plastic in that area so use sparingly. The way we remove bolts like that is to either use a smaller metric socket, or better a rounded bolt head remover that has chisel teeth that you hammer on to the rounded bolt. Then use an impact in reverse with short bursts. Keep working it, it will come out.
