Here's more pictures. I tried to scrape more of the peeling layer off but it didn't really work. The plasti-dip filled it in some but you can kinda still see a faint outline of the areas peeling. I should've put some more coats of it on.
As for removal, you just removed the interior gate trim. You will see inside the rear gate under where the trim was, there's some small bolts that hold the outside trim on. It's pretty easy to remove.
On my old X I wet sanded it for about 20 minutes and then tried to wrap it in vinyl and had no luck. I ended up just sanding it all the way down to the plastic and leaving it. Looked much better than the clear pealing off but nowhere near as good as Juans!
I jut repainted mine when I had the back glass out. Sand progressively down to a 400 grit before painting. It takes time, but it gives a great result. I then sprayed it flat black. Then I sprayed a clear coat over the top of that.
