First time posting in this forum, I'm usually over in the super duty. Anyways I am planning on buying a 2012 eco boost super cab with 30k. I live in New England and I am very familiar with rust, but I just would like to know if this looks normal on a 2012.
My 2012 in Canada (Salted roads) looks about the same except for some of the dirt. See some surface rust starting in the panel joints so if you buy it, get it oil sprayed right away and then every second year or more depending on salt use etc

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think it looked too bad either. And I think I'll get oil sprayed just to keep it in check. What kind of shop would do that?
I don't think it looks horrible for a three year old truck in the snow belt but as someone mentioned above, if you buy it, chase that rust down and try to mitigate it's effects ASAP.

My BIL bought a used 2000 superduty back in 2004 and it had some rust formations under it. He actually sprays it down with used motor oil each year and it has helped but now that the truck is 15 years old it's about done for. The truck is in Maine BTW.

It seems like rust will win no matter what you do around here. They put down more salt down than we get snow it seems like. I'm just going to stay on top of washing it during the winter.
I find that picture interesting because I also live in the rust belt and my truck is a 2012... BUT... I began a regimen of applying Fluid Film every fall from the time it was new. I made a thread about it and people asked if it worked and I said I don't know, talk to me in 10 years. Well, maybe we don't have to wait 10 years after all.
.... Here's a picture from the same position under my truck - 2012 with Fluid Film applied every year. So much salt on the roads the truck turns white in winter. The nice thing about Fluid Film is you can put it over rust and it will slow things down so don't worry that you weren't able to start from new. I'm just encouraged to see evidence that this stuff really does work! I spray it on indiscriminately other than covering the wheels and brakes with drop cloth.

That's very impressive. I'll deffinetly put some of that on in the fall it seems like the right thing to do.
