The people here are primarily interested in protecting the reputation of Ford and ecoboost. They don't seem to know a whole lot either. Take off your shoe and ask it...I'm kind of kidding, but I would hope you could be assumed to be honest and get some help.
I don't see it that way. We have a right to know what caused the damage so we don't repeat the OP's fate.
But, there is something missing from the puzzle, can you agree?

EXACTLY. Knowing what happened helps everyone on the forum. If my engine blew because of a bad spark plug (or had the potential to), I sure wouldn't be trying to "protect Ford and the EcoBoost".
There is a guy around here that blew one, but after digging a little deeper, turns out he was running methanol... Oops.

We don't agree that "We have a right to know..." We can respectfully request.
I try to look at this stuff objectively. If I have questions I ask them. What I often hear sounds like a rush to defend the EB. My big issue is reliability and when my 5.0 got totaled I found an EB to replace it...8' bed reg cab. I just couldn't do it. Does the competition have bogus fear-mongers blogging...probably. Are a large number of posters here Dealership employees or Ford promoters? Duh!

Yeah, I don't think so. There are some Ford sales people, some Ford service techs and perhaps a few Ford employees but for the most part we're made up of rank and file Ford enthusiasts.
Anybody that reads the posts in this thread and thinks we are defending the Ecoboost is a total dumba$$. Obviously the engine experienced a catastrophic failure because when somebody says, "hydrolock" that means major components are bent or broken. The only thing we're questioning is the cause and effect leading to failure.

The OP came on here and left the post. Then came back once more after the second post on the thread and disappeared. I am not sure what you consider "obvious(ly)," but if you blew an engine are you really wasting your time coming here? As to your "dumba$$" slur, you might be looking in a mirror. I am not at all sure why that is acceptable to the mods??????

But it's acceptable for you to insult people??

has anyone had experience changing engines on the 2012 f150? done plenty of older swaps but want to know what to expect with this one. Ecoboost blew because of an MSD plug so warrantee is not covering.
Hopefully all the insulting is done... I wouldn't think too many engine swaps have been done under the shadetree because of most of these being done by the Ford house under warranty. But to answer your question directly, there isn't anything different about pulling an EcoBoost engine. Drain the radiator, disconnect hoses, electrical, exhaust, & trans, disconnect motor mounts, hoist it out... Hopefully the AC compressor can be pulled off with the hoses intact and laid to the side instead of having to evacuate, but that's no different than any other pull. Some can, some can't.
Good luck, and come back and share your experience. I know I'm really curious about a postmortem on the old engine. It almost sounds like someone was reaching for an excuse to deny a warranty. Have you gotten a second opinion from another dealer by chance?

The op leaves more questions than answers for sure. I just am always hopeful that NASSTY will add "blah blah blah blah...nothing."

Look sir, you've been quite ambitious in your insults of the ecoboost and those of us who own one. I couldn't care less what your opinion of the engine is, but I'm getting a little bored of being accused of defending an engine that I didn't build.
If some fail, they fail. It's going to happen. Many 5.0L V-8's on this site alone have had serious issues and ultimate failures resulting in engine swaps, buy backs and comprehensive repairs. The ecoboost owners aren't rallying an "I told you so" forum to laugh at someone's bad luck. But, over the past four years we've been poked pretty hard by guys like you.
You ignore this when you point fingers at those of us who made a different choice. My truck has been 100% trouble free.
Now, can we please get back on track before I shut this damned thing down.

Have you ever considered that this isn't "poking," but legitimate concerns?
Yours has been 100% trouble free, but the truth is that the point is flawed: For example, If you open a carton of eggs and split them between 12 people and 11 are rotten, it is irrelevant that your egg is good.
Back on the topic, whatever happened to the OP. It is probably someone wishing to agitate the ecoboosters and it worked--Not my fault
If the MSD part failed causing the failure of the engine you have to have it documented by the dealer and then go after MSD for the damages caused by the faulty part. Documentation, receipts, counsel and etc will be helpful.
