I have a 67 f-250 with 240/ 4sp and need some help selecting a proper carb for daily use economy. Current setup is the factory load-o-matic/ spark-o-matic. I have a DUI distributor coming and was leaning to the Carter one barrel. I would appreciate suggestions. Can i keep the 1100 and pull vacuum off the manifold for the dizzy?
Just watch out for different mounting pattern/ sizes. I might be wrong, but I remember not all of the 240/300's had the same carb mounting bolt pattern. If you have the 1100 I think it had a different bolt pattern then the Carter's. Just double check that before you swap carbs ( if you plan to ) .
If you want to swap carbs and the bolt patterns are different you might need an adapter or to swap intakes.
My self I'd go with an aftermarket intake Either a Offy C-series( Not the Dp ) or Clifford single 4V intake. Then add a 4V to 2V adapter and run an Autolite 2100 2V in the 0.98, 1.01 or 1.02 size range. The Autolite is a simple carb that will give you good performance and economy.
If you don't want to get into the cost of the intake swap then the Carter YF 1V would be a good choice.
The early 240s and 300s still had two carburetor mounting bolts oriented the same way, but were just a little closer to each . An earlier style carburetor can easily be modified to fit the later style manifold using a small round hand file. It takes about 15 minutes.
It is not uncommon when using a remanufactured carburetor to find slots rather than holes for mounting. This is so the carburetor can be used for either early or later factory intake manifolds.
