Hi everyone!! I'm new here and new to owing a ford pickup. I bought a 2002 Ford F-150 lariat 4x4 as a project truck. I've always wanted a truck to mess around with, but once I got the truck home I noticed it had a knocking sound. It didn't sound like it came from the top of the engine so I checked the muffler first and found it had a 3" slit in it. I replaced it but the sound remains. Anyone here have any thoughts. I heard it could be lifters? Is that something I should mess with or not?

Lol. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. Is it an easy fix?
No it's not easy from what I have read,, that's why I just learned to enjoy the nice sound as it's gotten louder and louder over the years. The 5.4 is easier to work on than the 4.6 which I have again from what I have read.
Now that you have a idea of what the problem is you can do a google search and read all about it and even watch it on utube.
My wife has had it with the noise,,, my fix was built yesterday, I should have it next week!
Wow!! That is a good fix and an excellent idea now for how I'll get my new truck... Let the noise annoy my wife. Lol! I plan on doing a lot to the truck it's my toy project till it dies. Keep checking I'll be posting updates of the truck progress. I want to see a pick of the truck when you get a chance. I'm sure it looks amazing. The 15's look tough.
