A while ago both back doors on my 01 crew cab stopped working. The outside handles jiggle loose but the inside ones feel like normal. They both went at about the same time. If it's those little black boxes that mount by the handle on the door, how do I even get to it to change it if it's stuck shut? I can't reach my hand in there either to even try to see what's wrong with it. Any suggestions on how to get it open?
Do you have the door pad off our is that what you can't reach. The door pads come off really easy there is a screw under the red reflector and i believe under the window switch. just pop it up and out. Then you can get in and manually move the rod. Once open turn off the child locks. The black moulding on the outside of the window just pulls straight up and forward i think then you can see in there better.

Yeah I get all that I'm just worried that if it is something in the actual lock that latches to the door in those little black boxes (that screw on the door that you have to have open to remove). How could I even change it out then? I though about maybe unbolting the door on the other side where the driver door latches, you think that would work to get the door off to change that latch out? (If it's not just a disconnected rod)
Nope either way you have to unlatch the latch. If you unbolt the hinges and pull your just going to scratch and dent things up. Handles break esp if your in a cold climate and the doors freeze shut. It's kind of rare for a latch failure. well to me I've done body work for 7 years and only replaced a handfull of latches. They were replaced because of a hard impact to the door. Either way you have to get it open. Either the rod came off which doesn't happen allot unless the doors have been apart But does happen. Or the handles broke. If your child locks are on you can't open them from the inside.

It might be just a loose rod that I might be able to put back in but I just had to replace the latch on an 01 Saturn because the door wouldn't stay shut on the car (there was a piece inside that was rusted and wouldn't spring). And you can't open it from the inside or outside. So basically what I'm gathering is I should find new doors and take a sawzall to the old ones.

Oh lord no!! Don't do anything that drastic until you pop the panels off reach in and push the rod manually. Then you will see what your up against.
