So i have this clunk in the rear of my truck. I only feel it at a stop light. If I come to a stop hard enough that you feel the suspension move and stop, you will feel a clunk. Then when i take off again and put a little more power to the wheels it clunks hard.
Ive checked and greased the slip joint with no change.
Next i grabbed the rear wheel and started rocking the truck and right away i notice the overload spring to be slapping its bumper.
It's only the driver's side doing it. Looking at the overload spring it appears to be closer to it's bumper than the other side by a couple inches. First thought was i must have bad bushings or a broken spring. I checked the whole suspension system from top to bottom in the rear. I can't find any wear or damage.
Plan on lifting it up and putting jack stands under the frame to hang everything.
What are your thoughts?
You still may have found your problem. Your ability to move the suspension as compared to when we drive it can really change the outcome.
I have used this several times.... but if you have or can get a go pro cam, tie it down back there and ride a round and see if you can visually catch what its doing. I used this to diagnose two rear drive shaft issues at the diff. Just a thought! Good luck
Still sounds like a spring problem to me.did you take the wheel off and look between the U-bolts at the spring?
It may very well be a spring/u-bolt that's fractured and hidden. Really hard to diagnose that without you unbolting the ubolts and separating the spring pack to QA the leafs, pins, etc....
