2001,V10 crewcab. I had to replace the fuel pump/sender last fall. That guage read 3/4 when I had used 2.6 gallons and 17 gal used read 1/8 tank left. When I returned from wintering in Texas the shop replaced that fuel pump/ sender and this one is about 1/8 shy of the true amount of gas in the tank, read about 7/8 when full to the shutoff. The guage worked perfectly before these changes so I'm sure it's the sender not the guage. Is there anyway to correct this reading? It's a small thing but I like to know how much gas I have. I haven't ran the tank down yet to check the guage for correctness at lower amounts. It's not a Ford replacement pump either, I think it's a Car Quest brand. Any ideas to correct this?
Not sure if its like the older style stuff to where you can bend the metal rod that holds the float. If it is, you'd have to pull the bed or the tank, and get it near full of fuel, check the gauge and adjust accordingly. As long as the resistance values are accurate throughout the range, that is. Not sure if you can adjust it, otherwise.
They replaced it with the wrong pump. I just finished dropping the tank and went to the parts store where they bought it, wrong number. There are 7 wheelbases, three size tanks, three tank positions and California or not parameters for the correct pump/guage.
Doesn't that just PI$$ you off? You bring your vehicle to a shop to get it fixed, they don't repair it correctly and you end up having to do it yourself anyway. I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me. I feel your pain!
