I'm Rob from New Jersey. I've stopped by this site a few times over the years and I've always found the info I needed. A new project has crossed my path and figured it was time to join.
I was a die hard Chevy guy until 2000 when my Suburban started dying a rusty death. I needed a truck to tow my race trailer 2 hours to the track every week. Just up the street was a 1993 F350 460 crew cab for sale. $9000 later the Ford chapter of my life started. I still have the truck today with close to 185,000 miles on it.
I work as a fleet mechanic for a local fuel oil company and last summer (after 11 years on the job) they bought me a 2015 f350 with an enclosed utility body. So.... that makes 2 F350s in my life....Love it!
My 93 F350 is now in need of some serious TLC. Time I don't have while I am using the truck. I have given up racing but my two kids have taken over where I left off. Towing every week I just cant lay it up for the time needed to bring her back. Last week I stumbled upon another one. Its rough around the edges but its fairly rust free...for NJ anyway. My plan is to restore the new truck and then swap them after it is complete.
I really like the OBS trucks and for what you pay for a newer rusted out POS these days ....its unreal! $15000 for a 14 year old truck with 160k????? YIKES! For that money I could really make a nice truck out of this one......and so it begins. With the third F350 in the family and a full scale project ahead of me I figured it was time to join. My new toy is a 1996 F350, 460, 5 speed, 4x4, XLT. I read somewhere that there were only 5 trucks with that combination made in 1996.....Not sure how true that is but I think its pretty cool It needs some help but since I am still towing with the '93... I can take the time to get it right. I hope to join in here soon as I figure out which end is up with my new project. Its been 15 years, a wife, and two kids since I had a "me" project so I'm excited about it.
Welcome. If you haven't already, check into the NJ Chapter. You'll see we are having a GTG @ Englishtown this Sat. I'll be in and out as I have a booth at the other end F-200 stop by and say hi if you get down there.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm still fumbling my way around the site trying to familiarize myself with the forum. I just found the chapter section. I'm going to check that out in more detail when I have a few extra minutes. I just finished single handedly taking the cab off my CC with 4 jack stands and 3 floor jacks. I'm toast!
Welcome and good luck with that project. I hate working on rusted vehicles and I would recommend looking for trucks in states that don't salt the roads.
LOL...I hate rust!. This truck is not too bad. There are no holes in the body and after a good coat of......well....anything.... on the frame it should be GTG.
