Hi All,
I swapped a 2003 7.3 into a 97 truck change everything I found necessary from the 97 engine to the 2003 but I cant get the engine to start. the injector don't seem to be firing. any ideas. Thanks
What did you do for fuel supply? Oh, uh, you didn't just put the fuel pump on the SD block, did you? Hate to break this to you, but that won't work; there's no lobe on the camshaft to drive it. You have to go e-fuel.
Presumably the OP replaced the ENGINE (i.e. the MECHANICAL device), and retained the wiring, electronics, etc., including the PCM, of the original TRUCK.
So back to basics:
* Does the WTS come on?
* Does the tach move when you crank it?
* Have you confirmed the e-fuel is working, do you have good fuel pressure?
* Have you done any PCM-based diagnostics, KOEO, injector buzz, etc?
* Have you monitored anything while cranking, such as injection pressure?
You said that you installed an electric fuel pump, but is that all you installed? Just and electric pump will not run the stroke, with out other changes to the fuel system.
good morning all thanks for the replies got the motor running this morning pulled out the squematics and started checking powers and grounds and found I was missing the ground that supplies the pcm and idm. Farmet yes I just installed the electric fuel pump what else you think would be necessary?
Are you using the stock fuel bowl? If so, is the electric pump upstream or downstream of it?
Absence of power to the PCM should have been evident the moment you turned the key. The WTS light would not have come on. There wouldn't even be any reason to proceed further to try to start it without getting the WTS light. You would also not have seen the brief flicker of the CE light.
Okay, no need to yell. The stock OBS fuel bowl wouldn't work with a single-stage electric pump; well, it might work, but you would risk blowing its seals. Only reason I asked.
