HELP.....460 Carb Troubles.........
The truck has an Edelbrock 1407, and an external pressure regulator.....This is the same carb I had on my 72 Demon, AND the 74 Cuda, and BOTH were garbage in my opinion.....they had constant hesitation problems, and dead spots low on the accelerator pumps..... The TRUCK is exactly the same, PLUS each time I shut it off, I get a powerful raw gasoline smell, as if it squirts gas in the carb when I turn the key off......EVERY time.....I hate to park the thing because of the smell.....the manifold and ALL gas areas are DRY.....NO wet gas anywhere, and no leaks.
I had the carb gasketed and the accelerator pump freshened.....they adjusted the regulator from over 8 pounds down to around 5.5 to 6, and it helped a great deal....BUT, it lasted only a month or so, and began doing the same thing again......very annoying raw gas smell when you shut it off, AND the hesitation baloney.
For one thing, I don't know why they installed an external regulator on this thing...maybe they thought it looked cool.....It appears to have a stock mechanical pump, not an electric......And the hesitation problems make you wanna just pull your hair out........

QUESTION: Can I just ditch the external regulator setup, and install a nice simple Holley 600 CFM ? I've always had good luck with Holleys, but not sure about the needs of this 460........ I just don't understand the way they have it set up.
Any suggestions?
