Happy^^hump day you all! Well not much success in the hunt yesterday, a few small electrical items!
Greg, I'm not sure if he is still around but I met a guy in Pahrump a few years ago named Riff. This guy knows his fords and had large stash of parts for the fridge years and the 60's/70's. He was talking about moving so Im not sure where he ended up. He is not an computer guy so kinda hard to get a hold of. If you decide to head out there, let me know and I can try to dig up his contact info for you.
One thing I will never understand is with all this coastline, we don't have any desalination plants.
Jim
Santa Barbara has one that they built years ago. Hope it still works for them.
Even if it does, I'm sure they won't be sending water out of their town, maybe Montecito, the next rich town south of them. They built it "just in case" and I guess that just in case has arrived.
They said at the time, after they got it on line, that the cost to operate was four times the cost of normal sources. But compared to NO water, I guess now it is a good deal. I hope that they have been doing the maintenance on that plant.
I know a guy in Montecito has acres and acres of green houses that he uses to grow orchids. Ships worldwide. He is really going to need a lot of water in order to stay wealthy.
Good work on your truck parts Greg. How do you plan to finish the grill?
Hey Donna, got your Terex working now? I'm guessing that if the truck does not work, then you don't get to work? Bummer for you, just getting used to those nice paychecks. Bah!
Pat, they must have looked at you funny walking into work with your pick and your hard hat. "What do you think this is? The salt mine?"
After making that statement, I decided to do some research, and found out that there are two desalination plants in California, however, only one is currently running. There is one in San Diego which is working, and then the one in Santa Barbara which was decommissioned years ago, and they are in the process of getting it up and running, but they claim it will be the end of 2016 before it will be operational. And I read that both plants are very expensive to operate, but as previously stated, some water is better than no water. Unfortunately for the State of California, both plants are only capable of putting out 5% of the water needs of their respective cities, so no extra to share for other communities. Which explains why there are not more of them springing up.
Bruce, I am still debating on using the grill or swapping it for a proper 70 grill. This thing is solid and straight. I don't see any damage to it at all other than some rust spots. If I keep it and use it I have to get all the headlight hardware and bezels. Kinda pricey, and I am saving for shoulder belts, and the proper pertronix ignitor. If I do use it, I would like to sandblast it and paint it or possibly powdercoat it.
