I have a 1994 f150 302 5 speed 4wd extended cab short bed with a one piece drive shaft. It has a bad vibration over 50mph. It can be felt at lower speeds but not as bad. I got under the truck and noticed it has a lot of up and down play int the slip yoke going into the transfer case. Anyone know what could cause this?
I have a 2 wheel drive with an E4od and the tail shaft should have very little to no play at all....For mine there is a brass bushing that the drive shaft slides into. I don't know any thing about the 5 speeds....
When was the last time you replaced your U-joints? I have to replace mine once every other year...
There is a link below maybe a diagram will help you. Good luck. Hope that's the right diagram
Take the driveshaft off. Confirm that the slip yoke isn't torn up, causing the play. Grab the t case output and check it for play. If it's the cause of substantial play, it's time to rebuild the t case or find a good replacement from the jy.
Have you checked your pinion flange? Had the same issue 55 and above would shake like a SOB I replaced u joints, checked tcase flange and then checked the pinion. She was sloppy tightened it up and tack welded ( NOT AT ALL THE RIGHT THING TO DO ) but its getting me by tell I do a rear gear swap. Fixed my vibration, also check front wheel bearings. They can cause odd vibrations as well
you have a 1345 t case? I wasn't visualizing that before....its normal to have a little play in the slip but not much. when I say not much, I mean just that....it shouldn't be so substantial that you lose sleep over it. . .
besides that, if the yoke is tight at the t-case, and the u joints are tight, and rear yoke is tight, you have another problem.
just cuz your u joints are "fresh" doesn't mean theyre any good. if theyre china joints they've propbably been bad months ago.
I had an issue with the flange on the rear end a few months ago. Thought that was my problem. Replaced the rear end and it seemed to help. U-joints have no play. Only slack I can find is the slip yoke in the transfer case
