First oil change?

I'm looking for suggestions as to when you would do your first oil change. I've got 800 miles on my new 15 Super Duty 6.2 and am thinking that it might be a good idea to change the oil in the 2-3k mile range. Let me hear it good bad and ugly.

nothing bad about it.

I did my first change at 1,500 miles, then at 5000 miles and every 5000 miles there after.

I always know when it is due with out having to write it down...because its on the 5's...10,000, 15,000, 20,000 etc.

I'm using the Ford blend but that's also what the dealer uses when they change it.

I did my first oil change at a 1,000 miles, even though the dealership said that it wasn't necessary. I change my oil every 3,000 miles, but If you change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, you should be good. I don't believe in extended life oils or using the trucks oil reminder for my oil changes. Also, I don't trust anyone to work on my vehicles, so I do all my own maintenance and repairs myself.

Thanks for all of your comments. I also have a 96 F150 4.9 that has had the oil changed every 3-5k and now has 202,000 on the ticker and have not had any issues. I think that while use during break in period when all internal parts are seating there is a chance for filings during this period which is why I think that a oil change is a good idea. The 96 never had an early oil change and it hasn't been an issue, that said I hope to get the same reliable service out of the new 6.2 for the next 20 years as I've gotten from the 96

This is why I bought a gasser over the diesel. A lot of the Power Stroke fanboys on FTE don't understand this, or they never intend on keeping their truck after it's paid for.

New motor I go 1k then Amsoil goes in...

On this truck I just picked up Monday I will make the switch at next recommended interval....According to the window sticker the dealer must have just changed it before the truck hit the used lot.

Just did mine at 4000 miles. Used what the manual said to use. It even has the part number for the filter. Rotella synthetic blend. Wal-mart carries it.

I don't recommend using any diesel motor oil in a gasoline engine, especially in a modern gasoline engine. And, always use a high quality oil filter.

Damnit. I said Rotella. I used Motorcraft. The one in the red jugs. I get the two switched because I originally ordered a diesel.

Yea, I used motorcraft. And a motorcraft filter that the part number was listed in the owner's manual.

I was going to say, Walmart sells the "Motorcraft Filter". That is high quality from what I've been told. At least for my 6.0 it was.

Yea, the owner's manual even has the part numbers.

I have no idea why I said Rotella. It was Motorcraft Synthetic Blend I used.

good deal, I was worried when you said Rotella.

FYI...I researched both the Motorcraft filter and Semi Syn oil...Bob's the oil guy...etc...both came back with very high marks.
