Hello. I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for their help, and contribute this piece of knowledge about my pickup. I have a 1990 F150, 4.9 L, straight 6, manual, EFI. My truck flashed a check engine light after 10 minutes of driving. This was followed by a decline in the performance. First the truck started to stutter, a couple of days later it started to stall, then had problems starting. I checked all of the O2 sensors, as well as the vacuum hoses. Nothing. Finally, I took it to the shop. After 4 weeks (in which time that truck was physically in the garage 17 days), it was fixed. The problem....a bad ground in the computer wiring, and a bare wire in the wiring harness. One good thing out of the experience is that every wire in my truck was checked, and the mechanics washed and waxed it ( a tribute I think). The mechanic said he had never had more trouble locating a problem. Anyway, something to consider.
funny you should say your problem was a bad ground wire. buddy of mine is a mech. and told me most of the times the problem is the ground near the battery, guess theres an extra ground wire off the neg. side, or the pickup module. and that was your problem, bad ground wire.
one the Ford trucks you have 2 ground wires, one large one going to the frame and engine and then a smaller one going to the body for the lights and such.
