Timing concerns and questions

I have a 1993 7.3. We are trying to refresh the motor and torn the motor down. All specs were fine and then we began the rebuild. Before we took the crank out we marked its orientation to the cam gear. We did not remove the cam. We replaced the rings and bearings. We set the crank gear back into the cam gear using the previous paint marks (not the dots). We have reassembled the front and rear covers. The Y mark on the cam gear is marked on the teeth. When I bring the crank to TDC #1, I cannot see the cam shaft Y mark. I am not sure this a concern so I ask the following questions. When the cam gear is at the top,(picture#1) the crank TD mark is at four o'clock (picture #2) and the #1 piston is at the bottom of the rotation (picture #3). When the crank TDC mark is aligned again (picture #4), the #1 and #4 pistons (picture #5) are at the top of the rotation and the cam gear mark is not visible . Am I o.k, to continue to move forward in putting on the heads and the valley pan and get the timing down when we replace the Injector pump gear?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have tried to read as much as possible before taking on this project.

use the alignment marks when #1 is at top dead. it is very easy to be 180 out if you use paint marks instead of the alignment marks.

Thanks for the reply! I guess my only concern at this point is if I get the #1 piston to TDC and the crankshaft damper line is right on then how to I get the Injector Pump gear aligned at the same time if the mark is not visible. Do I then simply mark the IP gear as shown in other threads and then move the cam shaft gear until the mark appears and match the two Ys? The repair manual says the Y mark on the cam shaft gear and the y mark on the IP gear must align.

correct. the 2 "O" marks align on the bottom, the 2 "Y" marks align on top, and the timing mark and piston on TDC.
#1 cylinder is passenger front.

Tom, thanks for the input! Just to make sure, I can make the two Ys line up and can make sure the damper is TDC but not at the same time. Are the line ups independent of the other? Or, does the cam gear Y need to be on top at the same time the damper line is TDC?

go by the marks on the gears.
the timing marks on the damper may not line up because the damper is bad and has spun on the rubber center .
