Newbie oil level question

2500 miles. Checked oil for first time today. After erecting scaffolding () to reach dipstick, it read about half-way between the marks.

What does that translate to in a 13 quart engine and should I top it off?

Of course, I can come to no conclusion about oil usage as I never checked it when it was new. And, I don't know what it comes with from the factory.

So, IF I top it off, how much and what kind.

Thanks

13 quarts is full. It sounds like it might have been a bit shy of that from the factory.

I would just leave it alone as long as it is in the cross hatch area. Cross hatch area as always is 1 quart.

Be sure to check it when cold for better reading. Lots of oil in the upper end of things and it takes awhile to drain down.

I use Motorcraft 15-40wt. From the factory it would have come with10-30.

Make sure that you use only oil for diesels with a CJ-4 on the bottle. It is made for the newer diesels.

Filters and oil can be had at wal-mart.

Fuel filters you will need to order or see the dealer. I get mine from dieselfiltersonline.com

Half way is where I prefer to see the level on mine cold for a few thousand after a change.

I has been said these things grow oil so I would leave it in the middle.

The tow hooks make nice steps especially if you put a couple little pieces of grip tape on them.

I would leave it alone... The last thing you want is to add oil and over fill it and then you'll have problems.

First off, welcome !
I couldn't stand the location of the dip stick either so I took a tubing tool and bent it to the drivers side. take your time and it will be just fine.
My truck is a 12. It is always at half-way. even when I change the oil at 7500 Mi.
I run the M/C 10/30
I fits real well in our expected temperature range.
Good luck.
