Talking Thud problem solved!!

I had the "thud" at early mileage (2500) . I took a pair of cutters and snipped the clip from the boot at mid support, stuck the greasegun in the boot and filled it up. Redid the boot with nylon cable ties (good ones), massaged the boot to force grease around and into splines, all went well for 57000 more miles and I did again. All is good again. Cheap fix in no time.

Do this now before you end up doing what I had to. My truck is in the shop right now getting a new Carrier Bearing and drive shaft. The spline got messed up and binded (Did not move in and out anymore) in turn taking out the carrier bearing. Not a cheap fix for what could have been saved with a few ounces of grease!

Thats what I think as well. I have to park between two of them everyday....I think that mine makes them feel small and weak so the only thing they can do is make my life's drive interesting as they cannot beat me. hahahaha

Thanks everybody. Got under the truck this weekend and took off the front clamp. Used a grease gun an filled the rubber boot full of grease, it worked and only took about ten minutes.

Thud problem solved!!

Hey Ubon, I pull a 30' trailer everyday. Like I said above I just filled the rubber boot with grease and moved it around. Try this first. I took my last truck, a 99 to the dealer and they replaced the rear springs, that didn't do anything, they then replaced my rear ujoint, which solved the problem. I have a feeling that when they re-installed the driveshaft the greased the splines which was really the cause of the noise. Go for it.
