96 7.3
I have a 96 7.3 that I just bought after setting for a year. I had to have the PCM repaired due to it have a short. Got the new rebuilt PCM back in and got it to fire and start. It ran at idle for about 3 minutes and died like you turned off the key and now the wait to start light stays on very dim and stays on. Number 9 fuse blows. I checked the PCM and it's fine. It's did this once before with the PCM shorted before I sent it off to get it rebuilt. I know there's a short but where to start looking????

id start by checking to see if anything in the wiring harness has been tampered with, anything has been bolted/screwed into anywhere in the truck that wasnt factory, look at the wires going into your pcm, stuff like that. Good Luck and Welcome to FTE...got any pics?

I got it. It was the transmission harness that was causing the short. A wiring had wearn thru and was shorting on top of the tail shaft. Taped it up and a piece of rubber hose to insulate it and put the fuse back in and she started right up.
