This arrived today, hopefully by tomorrow I will have the new radiator, heavy duty cooler and new tranny/torque coverter all installed. Of course getting the coolant all flushed out before going with the fleet precharged.
It is a bit better, it's comparable to the ones Monster transmissions sells, hd clutch packs, basically all the weak links that can be replaced with better components have been. Billet torque converter "multi disc" low stall, everything in it is beefed up as well. I will try to look around and see if I can find the spec sheets on everything, oh yea bought forgot the ridiculously sized cooler.
Something I found out is almost all the reman companies offer beefier versions of their stock reman stuff, you just gotta be willing to pay for it. I got a few hundred more invested than I would with the Ford reman which is a stock oem that jasper remans for Ford. Cost a little but is built like a tank, hopefully I won't ever need a new one.
Don't think anyone is following this, but just for the sake of updating..
Tranny, Torque Converter, Cooler, Radiator, new hoses, all complete. Truck shifts great, the old tranny was performing so poorly..this one seems to breathe new life into the truck. So far (knock on wood) no OD light flashing/shifting hard issues. That was one of the many reasons I decided to go ahead with the updates.
Now on to the next round of fun. I should just start one inclusive thread cause I got alot I wanna do, don't want to bother folks with bunches of threads if they can all go into one...
You have 117 views so far...I'd say this thread has a lot of followers.
For me, reading about E4OD woes, and that BTS or similar are the suggested (but pricy) solution, I read just about all trans threads. Watching for preventable measures and affordable alternatives.
Where did it come from?
I watch...I don't comment if nothing to add..
I was originally gonna order one from Monster Transmission, but I needed my truck up and running sooner than their 4 week build time, so I talked to a local shop after checking with ford (my local ford wanted as much to order the Jasper OEM spec and install it as I paid for this) and digging around online. The local shop ordered the reman from their rep built the way I wanted it, much quicker turnaround than I could have had from Monster (though they make some really nice remans, affordable for what you get as well, if you got the time I recommend those guys).
Its actually a Transtar Reman, but not the standard e4od reman they offer, which is a fine product just not what I wanted. If you have a local shop that deals with Transtar getting what you want in it isn't that hard, and they are pretty quick. I tried to find the specs on the Transtar site for this, but they mainly advertise the oem remans. It has some of the Transgo upgrades in it as well. The torque converter I got was the biggest baddest they offer for the e4od. The cooler I got with this thing is almost 3x the size of the oem cooler.
I had originally intended to try the job myself, but factor in a recent surgery and time scale, I just said screw it and went the shop route. Costed a bit more but I got a 3yr 100k mile warranty and was able to not hurt myself as I heal.
Thanks for following the thread everyone, and bear with my "dummy" posts. I know somethings, but when it comes to this 7.3 I have a lot to learn.
I burned up two autos and the third in my 96 is on its last leg. When I got the 97 I went all out for a bullet proof trans (John Woods) with a lifetime warranty. To me, you never really know what you are getting until its tested in the real world. I hope yours works out for you!
The little lady was mind blown, because I have already spent more on the truck than I paid for it....but I knew that going in...I bought an older truck, because I like them better, its paid for, and instead of making payments to a financial institution I get to spend that money at the parts house and shops..lol. Trying to cut back on what gets spent at the shops though, wanna do as much work as I can myself. Have a little pride in it, know ya done it right, and save some $.
I got more then three times into mine what I paid for it. I spent 6K on the dually and within a week another 5K on the trans. Then the wallet went on a real diet!
