Who here knows how to rebuild the steering column in our trucks? It is literally one of the last things I need to get done. After talking to the guy that runs Carolina Classics (who claims that he's personally rebuilt hundreds of them), I know that I'll definitely need a shift tube and a shift collar. Well my shift arm is completely screwed up, so I know I'll need that too.
My question is, besides how in the hell do you rebuild the steering column, is will Denis Carpenter's shift tube will work out of the box with my truck? I'll swing by CC on Monday (my dad lives across town from him) and probably gain some knowledge (and a collar) from him. The problem is, is that he said that the shift tubes were application-specific and one size does not fit all. Worst case scenario I could leave the new tube with him and have him fab it it to work with my truck, but that is a lot of hassle.
Slightly stuck here, but at least there is an outcome to all of this.
Thed, Count on what Rick tells you. What ever DC has Rick will have or have access to. They are swap dealers.
Rick Allen is a good man.

Yeah Rick seems to be a pretty nice guy. He's going to a swap meet this weekend in Charlotte, so hopefully he might pick something up. If not, he said to bring buy my steering column and we'll take a look at it and see if anything can be saved.
To my disappointment, Carolina Classics was closed today. Oh well, I'll try again next week.
Did you call him and have an appointment? They are moving out of the Geer St. location due to thefts and him building a building on his property. I know it's disappointing and he does have a lot on his mind.
I've got to catch up with him and get a gas tank gauge sending unit from him.

No, I didn't know about his whole fiasco on Geer St. Good thing that he's moving, Geer St. is a BAD part of Durham (yes, there are some good parts guys). This time I'll actually call him so we can meet up there with my to-be-ripped-out steering column and see if anything is worth saving.
Funny, before I even bought my F-100, I bought a 5.0L from an Exploder from the sketchy junk yard right next door when I was 18. That one is for the Ranger!
