Info Please

Im hoping someone with the service lit will have a read on the gear ratio on a spicer rear end that I pulled out of a 64 F100. The door tag stamp for the rear gear is A9. I was told that is a 4:56 but I have no way to confirm it. A little help would be appreciated thank you.

Well I guess I could confirm it by pulling the cover off and counting ring and pinion teeth but it would be easier and less messy this way. I still will do that before I just assume it is whatever the door tag says it is.

Rear axle code A9 for '63-'65 rear axles is a non-locking Spicer 60.2, 3.54 ratio and 3,300 lb rating.

^ In-correct! ^ 1959 thru today: If the AXLE code stamped on the Warranty Plate begins with a letter: Limited Slip. If with a number: No Limited Slip.

1963/79 F100/350 (except Open Drive-Away's). Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch.

The A9 AXLE code is not listed in the truck parts catalogs for 1963 or 1964 .. as its 3.54-1 ratio wasn't available until 1965.

A9 = 1965/66 F100 Spicer/Dana 60.2 Rear Axle / 3.54-1 / Limited Slip.

More than likely, since this rear axle code was not used in 1963 or 1964, is that the original 1964 door was replaced by a 1965/66 door due to damage.

Or the truck was a 1965 or 1966 to begin with.

Thanks Bill and John for the speedy replies. Im pretty sure then that it was a 64 with 65 or 66 doors on it and the tag probably was never changed out. So I guess Im not sure what I have for a ratio in the spicer I yanked out of the hulk. Guess Ill pull the cover and count teeth and see if it has the proper clutch assembly and ring and pinion to denote a limited slip. I will report back when I find out what I really have sitting on my garage floor. Thanks again guys I appreciate the help.
