Brake dust plate
I've done some research and wanting to know if these are needed. The cheapest I can find is around 75 dollars for the rears. I haven't looked but these are on the front also, correct?
I put all new rotors and pads on and still hear a scraping noise from the rear, which I believe is this back plate rubbing.
One thing after another.....
Any other sources that are cheaper?
Not to impressed with the build quality of this truck, my 2003 ranger was light years ahead of this damn thing.

Dont mean to pick apart your post but your descriptives aren't discript at least not for the purpose of helping you trouble shoot on the net without visuals. Pictures are excellent help along with year, make and model of your truck. Its Hard to tell exactly what your asking from this post as your mixing descriptions here. But Ill try....

If your discussing the rears, yes you need them, as they anchor the E-Brakes and are called Backing plates.

Again confused here. Fronts are dust shields. Their sole purpose is to keep debris off the rear of the rotor. Not necessarily "needed" and you can run without but certainly recommended and easier to change vs the read backing plate.

Both front and rear rotors and pads got replaced?
When you had the rear (if you did) rotors off did you inspect the EBrakes? The scraping noise could be the E-Brakes flopping around and getting ground up inside the rear rotor. Especially since you were in there and disturbed them. It could have been just enough to jar the pins from what little metal was left holding them in. The anchor pins will pull through the rotted backing plate and allow the shoes and hardware to float around and get eaten up by the rotor. Dangerous situation get it fixed asap. Inspect and replace asap. The procedure is well documented on this site. Id recommend nickle or powder coating the backing plates before installation. The nickel will eliminate this problem. Powder coat will last a long time too.
I did a temporary repair on my 08 for this as I caught it before everything got destroyed. I used a fender washer trimmed to fit flush on the backing plate as a backer for a new pin. I used regular shoe brake hardware to reattach the shoes. A standard shoe brake hardware kit has longer pins and I used the springs and cups too. Worked. Then traded the dame thing in.
Im with SuperDuty Scaler my phone app isnt giving me the year, make and model of your rig....

Made in china, but ford does not offer just the plates, you have to get them with the cast mounting bracket and they are like 6x the cost.
Here is an example of a ford plate, you can easily reuse the studs and bracket. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-OEM-05-12-F-250-Super-Duty-Rear-Brakes-Brake-Backing-Plate-5C3Z2B636AA-/331430907089?hash=item4d2ad24cd1&vxp=mtr
I changed all 4 rotors and pads all around last week. I cleaned everything up real good, new hardware kits all around, lubed slide pins, etc.
I now notice a dragging noise. My back plates are so rusted out they are catching the rotors, or so I thought.
took rears back apart today and took a cutting wheel to where I thought they were catching, no difference. Still have the sound. I tried using my parking brake and it goes all the way to the floor. No brake light on dash or anything. I looked at the shoes and they are worn pretty good but didn't have time to change. I sprayed some brake cleaner on the hardware then a lil bit of Kroil oil to loosen up. This truck has a ton of rust everywhere, never seen anything like it. It's a central illinois truck.
I tried adjusting them and they are a lil better but I'm out of adjustment and it will not hold the truck when I put in gear.
Should I just bite the bullet and replace the hardware and shoes? I really didn't wanna pull the hub and all....
I still dunno where the grinding noise is coming from. I lubed all metal to metal points.
on another topic, my manual hub locks on the front are acting up also. They've been locked in since I bought the truck. I put them in free and they make a crazy noise like something is loose! It's more noticeable when I hit bumps.....
Im starting to regret buying this truck.
