right rear brake

On my 81 F100 I did a routine rear brake adjustment yesterday and My right rear brake is popping when you hit the brakes. The pads are smooth and I could use a new drum, but they still have plenty of pad left on them. I don't think that could be the problem, but if it is somebody please let know or tell me what it could be. I don't need brake failure right know, by the way just in case you might be thinking about the front, the rotors and pads were replaced 10 months ago. Thank you for any help and Merry Christmas

Any cracks in the pads?

Could be the return springs are weak.

Drum out of round putting the pads in a bind?

Lack of lubricant on the mating surfaces where the pads ride on the backing plate?

The backing plate is worn and has a groove or is worn through in the place where the pads connect and ride.

Improper or real loose adjustment, worn out pads?

All I can think of to check.

throw a new spring and hardware kit in there, and see where it goes from there...

Grease the backing plate also...

I hate brakes, but mine work good now... I've been through the whole damn system on my truck.
