460 overheating

I'm new to this forum. Excuse misakes. My brother has class a motor home, 460, JD Frame. Problem is severe overheating. This unit is a 1990. Took him 4 days from WA to ND. Fan clutch is fine, new thermostat put in on the trip. He was pulling a heavy load and the days were pretty hot, thought that was it. We unloaded and drove "empty" for about 100 miles. Same problem. Going down hill foot off throttle at about 40 mph and temp still rises to hot. Have flushed system, no change. Shroud in place, hoses seem fine. Could water pump still be circulating but not full volume? He's got 1100 miles to go home. We need to find problem.

Thanks in Advance

460 overheating

I have seen many people that have had the radiator flushed, but it still was clogged. I suggest taking the radiator out and having it "rodded". They take the side tanks off, and run rods through the baffles. Often, with a flush, especially if it has been ignored or old antifreeze, particles are freed from one place and end up in the rad.

It could be that the water pump is not circulating enough water.

I had a similar problem, and I flushed and flushed my rad. Ended up taking it out and having a shop rod it. Solved all my problems.
