Hey guys, new to this forum. Did some searching but could not find anything regarding the newer 5.4's overheating especially under normal driving conditions.
Here's the deal: Last week my 05 Expy was running rough, took it into the shop and the mechanic said an injector was stuck open, went ahead and had that replaced. A few days later it overheated (not pulling a trailer, not going up hill, maybe 70 degrees outside temp), all the lights came on including the reduced power. Had it towed into the shop where it measured 250 degrees. Shop called next day and said head gasket needs to be replaced.
From my understanding, the head gasket going bad is because of the overheating. Any ideas what would be causing it to overheat under normal conditions? Radiator is fine, no coolant in oil etc. Cant seem to find anyone else with similar problems (injector or overheating) with the newer version of the 5.4 Also, truck has 110,000 miles.
All scheduled maintenance has been followed, cooling system was last flushed about 100,000 miles ago. Cooling fan and thermostat are working.
Alloro, are blown head gaskets known for going out on these engines or is this weird at 110,000 miles?
The local ford dealer and a local shop told me that they don't normally see the head gaskets going on the 5.4.
My issue is, I would assume it will need a transmission within the next 40-50,000 miles and probably a fuel pump sooner than later. Any other repairs I should plan on/budget for on this truck within say the next 50,000 miles?

Head gaskets can go out on any engine, the 5.4 being no different. If you do a search you'll see you're not the only one thats had head gasket issues. There is a product you might look into that could save you around $1000 if it works as advertised, however I don't know of anyone who's used it.
