I was removing a thermometer wire that was intermingled with the wires under the drivers side dash and somehow i did something that my truck wont start now. I did get it started once but it sounded like only a couple cylinders were firing. I checked to make sure that i didnt unplug the DP tuner and didnt see any unplugged wires. I ran great just before i removed the thermometer. Any ideas were to start troubleshooting?

id start with removing the tuner

I disconnected the DP tuner at the connection to the dash and it didnt make any difference. I also tried starting in different switch positions?

Have you checked the fuses?

Does the Wait To Start Light Illuminate?

I have checked the fuses under the hood and in the cab.

Yes the wait to start light comes on. If i crank for a while it will get oil pressure and fire up but runs like its only on a few cylinders or its starving for fuel? How can i check to make sure i am getting fuel? I have 2 fuel filters and the one in the engine compartment is only a few months old. The one under the truck is a little older.

Curiosity has me.... What Thermometer Wire.... I would assume. based on your statement that perhaps you have simply caused an issue which you could rectify yourself if you want to take the time to back channel your steps and look for a disconnected, broken, or chafed wire.

did you check the tuner connection to the PCM (at the PCM itself, i am wondering if you may have accidentally knocked it a little maybe?)?

I believe you need to make sure the keys are a million miles away from the truck before you do this, an ignition switch on and messing with a tuner means an expensive PCM replacement!

What is this thermometer wire you removed? was it connected to anything or just hanging there? (Tom beat me to this question!)

The thermometer was just an auto part store battery operated outdoor thermometer that the previous owner installed and had the wire for the sensor running under the dash. I spent hours looking at all of the wires and checking fuses etc. I usually like to do all of the diagnostics and work myself because I like to learn and generally enjoy the feeling of fixing something. Unfortunately for me it is spring break and I need my truck to take the kids to the shooting range Friday. The shop I am having it towed too has a great reputation and said they can scan for codes. I am hoping its just a CPS.

I am not saying it can't happen (and I am sure it has plenty of times to different people) but that to me seems like an awfully big coincidence for the CPS to go out at the exact same time you were delving around under the dash? I would rather think something got pinched/disconnected/chafed/cut/etc. when you were removing the wiring for the thermostat. Please do not think I am wishing any ill feelings or luck towards you at all, because it cannot be any further from the truth. I know how I would feel if I were in the same position!

I hope it is something and nothing and the shop gets you back on the road nice and quick!

Please let us know what they find.

.I Am hoping its something simple like the CPS but yes I agree that would be a big coincidence. The previous owner had a lot of wiring changed underneath the dash so I wouldn't be surprised if it was something under the dash. I will let people know what I find out.
